Roatán host of the Caribbean Cup Freediving Competition 2021

The beautiful beaches of Roatan Island in the Honduran Caribbean paradise, is home to the 8th edition of the Caribbean Cup Freediving Competition 2021, bringing together the finest swimmers in this extreme discipline.

Freediving is an extreme sport, where all respiratory activity is voluntarily paused in the water while divers dive to great depths.

People compete to get more depth, time, or distance.

This activity is practiced ancestrally, although the first competitions and records date from the middle of the 20th century.

Currently, the world record is 130 meters in the constant weight discipline with fins. 125 in free immersion and 102 in constant weight without fins.

The Caribbean Cup Freediving Competition takes place in West Bay from August 11 to 18. The diving platforms are located 3 minutes by boat from the beach resort where all the competitors are lodged.

Since its creation in 2013, the Caribbean Cup has become one of the most important competitions in the world of this discipline.

In this competition participate athletes from Canada, the USA, Mexico, Honduras, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, France, Italy, England, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Slovakia, Russia, Japan, New Zealand, Austria, and Tunisia.
